Source: Jags, Morse reach 2-year, $10.5M deal

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars and center Mitch Morse have agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth $10.5 million, a league source confirmed Monday.

Morse, who also visited with the Steelers, has started 126 games in nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. He was released by Buffalo last Wednesday in a move that saved $8.5 million against the salary cap.

Morse’s deal with the Jaguars was first reported by NFL Network.

Morse, 31, was the Bills’ starting center since 2019. He served as a key locker room presence and anchor of the offensive line that saw Josh Allen come away from the 2023 season with the fewest sacks of his career (24).

Since 2019, Morse was second on the Bills in pass block win rate (94.6%).

At worst, Morse will provide competition for third-year center Luke Fortner, who struggled in 2023. Fortner ranked 31st among centers in pass block win rate (87.9%), per ESPN Stats & Information. Morse ranked 14th (93%).

The Jaguars restructured right guard Brandon Scherff‘s contract on Sunday, fully guaranteeing his $15 million salary and spreading his $23.96 million salary cap hit over the next four seasons. They also signed left guard Ezra Cleveland early last week to a three-year, $24 million contract with $14.25 million guaranteed.

The Jaguars dealt with multiple injuries along the left side of the offensive line, especially at left guard (four players started games there), and ranked 29th in pass block win rate (50.5%) and 28th in run block win rate (68.1%), per ESPN Stats & Information.
